Uutta Ghost of Tsushimassa: Director’s Cut?

What kind of new goodies can you expect from Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut? We've got the lowdown.

In 2020, Sucker Punch Productions brought us one of the most exciting final, large-scale games for the PlayStation 4: Ghost of Tsushima. It brought us an open world adventure that followed samurai Jin Sakai as he fought to protect Tsushima Island during the first Mongol invasion of Japan. It was a fantastic and absolutely gorgeous journey, but it was over too soon. Then, the PlayStation 5 came along, and so many of wished it could have seen the light of day on Sony's newest console.

Well, Sucker Punch is about to deliver. This August, Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut is headed to PlayStation 5, and bringing a series of augments and new content with it. Curious about what you can expect when the new version of the game hits in August? Here's everything that's new -- it might be time to start squirreling away some savings so you can buy it on day one, especially if you enjoyed the game the first time around.

What's new in Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut?

Journey to Iki Island

Iki Island is the neighboring island to Tsushima during the same time period Ghost of Tsushima took place. In Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut, you'll be able to travel as Jin to Iki as he works to investigate a possible Mongol invasion. Unfortunately, when he gets there, he realizes he's in for more than he bargained for. While there are more details still pending, right now we do know that the island will feature brand-new story content and characters. It will also include new environments, new armor for Jin and his horse, enemy types, techniques, and more. There are also additional trophies to unlock, which we'll learn more about soon.

New PlayStation 5 features

As Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut arrives on PlayStation 5, it will come with a slew of additional features. It will include the ability to watch Japanese lip sync since the PS5 can render cinematics in real-time, which is something fans had been clamoring for since the game released. Additionally, the new version of the game will include haptic feedback and the use of adaptive triggers with the PlayStation 5's DualSense controller. It will also receive 3D audio enhancements, improved load times, 4K resolution, and 60 FPS.

Save transfers and more

If you've already played Ghost of Tsushima on PlayStation 4, you won't have to start over completely. There will be an option to transfer your save from PS4 to PS5 to continue where you left off. That means you can go to Act 2 in Ghost of Tsushima to break off and explore Iki Island, so you don't need to make a completely new game. There will also be an accessibility patch and a number of new upgrades to Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, many of which haven't been completely announced yet, but they'll be making their way out soon.

Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut will launch on August 20 fo PS5 and PS4.
